Emergency Management advises residents ahead of nor'easter
Wareham Emergency Management is preparing for a forecasted Nor’easter that could bring damaging wind gusts to Wareham, with the strongest gusts expected in coastal regions.
The storm is expected to begin in the afternoon Sunday, Oct. 12 and continue throughout Monday, Oct. 13. Hazard-level wind gusts could reach up to 55 up to 50 mph on the South Shore.
Peak gusts are expected to begin very late Sunday afternoon and continue through Monday evening. Winds at these levels can bring trees and limbs down on our electric equipment, causing outages according Wareham Emergency Management.
Wind may also limit Eversource’s ability to quickly respond to community priorities and outages during the peak of the storm. Emergency management will respond as quickly as safety permits.
Total rainfall between the start of Sunday and early Tuesday could reach 3 inches in some places, with the heaviest rain falling in coastal areas of Eastern Massachusetts.
The heavy rain could saturate the ground, making it easier for trees and limbs to fall on electrical lines and equipment.
The rain could also cause street flooding, which could affect Eversource’s ability to access damaged equipment and make repairs.
Emergency management advises to report downed wires and trees to local public safety and to not touch downed wires.
