Level one drought issued for town
The town of Wareham under the guidance of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has issued a level one, or, mild drought status for Wareham Wednesday, Sept. 10.
The department cites below normal rainfall from the last three months for the significant drought throughout the state. August was notably dry with most areas observing one to two inches below normal rainfall.
Three-month precipitation deficits remain widespread, with much of the state seeing only 40–80% of normal rainfall, according to the department. Although recent rainfall has provided some relief, the lack of precipitation and higher temperatures have increased the risk for outdoor fires.
The Wareham Water Department advises residents to limit outdoor watering to one day a week, after 5 p.m. or before 9 a.m.
