The new and improved Lopes Playground will celebrate a grand opening ceremony June 14 with a brand new playground, new walking paths and so much more.

The park has been under construction since March to replace the aging wooden playground and to make the Americans with Disabilities Act compliant.

Changes to the playground include two age specific areas for play, one for kids age 2 to 5 and another for kids age 5 to 12.

The brand new accessible playground will also include two zip lines, slides, an accessible merry-go-round, swings, climbers, an inclusive see-saw and many interactive play panels for kids to enjoy on June 14.

Still to come is the new accessible walking path around the park, improvements to the basketball court, gazebo renovations, new benches and signage for the park, a speed sign indicator for people driving by and new fencing, gates and memorial pickets, existing memorial pickets were not removed.

The opening ceremony will be held June 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park.
