Valmore “Val” D. Crete, Jr., 88
SANDWICH – Valmore “Val” D. Crete, Jr., U.S. Air Force (Ret.), 88, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 6, 2026 at his home in Sandwich. He was the husband of the late Norma (Hendricks) Crete, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Loretta (Fredette) Crete and Valmore Damose Crete.
Val proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for more than 20 years. He served during the Vietnam era and retired with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. During his military career, he received several medals and decorations, including the Bronze Star. His service also provided him the opportunity to travel extensively, including to Alaska, Hawaii, the Philippines, South Korea, and Japan.
Following his military service, Val became an active and dedicated member of the Wareham community. He was instrumental in the development of Wareham Little League, where he served first as a coach and later as president of the organization. He also played a key role in arranging the purchase of the land for the Little League complex on Charge Pond Road.
Val was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, and golfing. He especially cherished the time he spent outdoors with family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Shan Crete Morrissey of Sandwich, Terri Crete Meehan of Vienna, VA, and Dan Crete of Marion. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Doug Crete of Dugspur, VA, and by his siblings, Diane Nolan, Lucille Martel, Brian Crete and Donna Crete Gorman.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 4 to 7 PM. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 27th at the funeral home at 10 AM followed by interment at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
