School Committee member honored for ‘commitment,’ ‘advocacy’
Wareham School Committee member Apryl Rossi was “shocked” when she found out at a Sept. 19 School Committee meeting that she was being honored by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees for her service to the district.
The Association selected Rossi for the 2024 Division Seven All-State School Committee award, an honor given out to school committee members “who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the education and welfare of children and who have shown a clear understanding of their role as school committee members,” according to the Association.
There are nine school committee divisions in the state, Wareham is in division seven.
In a letter from Massachusetts Association of School Committees President Mildred Lefebvre, Rossi was recognized for her "commitment to the role of the school committee and through your advocacy and efforts on behalf of the high school."
Rossi serves as the Wareham school committee delegate for the annual joint Massachusetts Association of School Committees and Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents conference.
The conference is where delegates gather to decide on resolutions presented on a select set of issues regarding the state education system.
"I am very honored and humbled that I am recognized by [the Association]," said Rossi. "It was definitely a big surprise and I was not expecting that. It's very empowering to have a voice in the way that the entire state legislates education."
