Nearly 200 swimmers, including one from Wareham, swim across New Bedford harbor

Swimmers raised $185,000 for the Buzzards Bay Coalition in the annual Buzzards Bay Swim on Saturday.

Coalition Event Manager Jonah Guerin said Tuesday that the swim, which runs 1.2 miles from the south end of New Bedford to Fort Phoenix Beach State Reservation in Fairhaven, went well.

The coalition saw 191 swimmers in the water on Saturday, with just one of them hailing from Wareham, 70-year-old Christa Johnson.

The fastest time to complete the swim was recorded by Cristian Twyman, according to swim results, who completed the open-water swim in 24 minutes and 30 seconds.
