Letter to the Editor: Thank you for the 'twinning' poppies

To the Editor:

The Wareham US to Wareham UK Twinning Committee would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to knit or crochet poppies for our twin town, Wareham, Dorset, UK. The project was to help our friends in Wareham complete enough poppies to be used to help celebrate their Remembrance Day in November, which is the same as our Veterans Day.

The church in Wareham, Dorset, UK will use the poppies to form a cascade down the side of the St. Martin’s Church building which is located on their main street leading into town.

Local crafters made over 650 poppies, which will be delivered this month to the former mayor, Hilary Goodinge who will present them to the parishioners of St. Martin’s on the Walls Church, an ancient church on the north walls of Wareham, Dorset.

We would like to thank the wonderful residents of our town and the members of two groups, the Knit Wits and the Stitch-n-Bitch groups who took the time to make poppies. And a very, very, special thank you to two of our residents who are personally carrying them over in an extra suitcase to deliver them while heading to a vacation in the area.

This has been an exciting way to connect with our sister town and offer our support for a project that our friends across the pond are passionate about. Our sincerest thank you to everyone who took the time to make them.
