Finding joy at the Bandshell during ‘Finding Nemo’

 Fans of all ages enjoyed the first Movies by the Bay screening at Onset’s Lillian Gregerman Bandshell on Saturday, Sept. 5.

Over 300 people came to watch “Finding Nemo,” said Marie Greig, who runs Wareham Community Outdoor Recreation, or CORE. 

“It was a really quiet, nice event,” she said.

Danny Minkle donated popcorn, which viewers could get for free. Over 400 bags of popcorn were taken, Greig said.

Greig said that she was glad to see a wide range of ages in the crowd. There were grandparents along with grandchildren and parents on the benches.

Greig said that CORE helped sponsor the event to promote the accessibility of the new bandshell. The group tried to make the event as inclusive as possible, adding closed captions to the screen.

The Community Events Committee provided a grant for the movie rights and projection equipment. Greig said she was glad they were able to provide funds in such a short time, as the event was planned quickly. “They went out of their way to make it happen very quickly,” she said.

CORE will plan more movie screenings for next summer throughout the winter, Greig said.
