John F. Derby, 77
Carver- John F. Derby, 77, died peacefully after a brief illness at the Royal Nursing Home in Fairhaven on June 3, 2025. Born December 5, 1947 in Kingston, NY, he loved camping and all of nature's critters.
Following graduation, he served 10 years in the Marine Corps. During his 10 year career with the Marines he was an Aircraft Safety Equipment Mechanic, Survival Equipment Repairer, a Recruiter and a Counselor II. He earned the following medals and recognitions: Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good conduct Medal (2nd award) 1973, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal 1975, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation and another Good Conduct Medal (3rd award) 1976. John served in Vietnam from September 8, 1972 - July 29, 1973.
In addition to his parents, Frank Derby and Eleanor (Carroll) DeBlanco and his step father Carmello DeBlanco he is predeceased by his first wife Janet Derby and their daughter Melissa, as well as his brother Joseph Derby.
John is survived by his loving daughters, Kayla Derby of Fairhaven and Lillian Pierro of Bridgewater, two sisters, Judy Silva of Whitman and Adelphia Derby of Bridgewater, a brother David Derby of Lakeville, former wife Michelle Pierro of Fairhaven, his grandson John Magee V of Carver, two granddaughters Jaden and Hannah Drinkwater of Taunton, a niece Carrie and nephews Cash, Cody and Casey. As well as a niece Melissa of New York. John is survived by his loving girlfriend Janice Tavares of Wareham in addition to many friends whom he would spend time with at "The Pond" in Plymouth. He also leaves behind an additional family member Jennifer Derby of Bridgewater.
Services are being handled by Casper Funeral & Cremation and will be private.
