Arrests for shoplifting, active warrants

Wareham Police have made a number of arrests, including several for shoplifting, over the last week.

Nick Bassett, 31, of East Wareham, was arrested by Officers Calib Larue, Stephen Harrison, and Peter Silvia on Repose Lane at 2:49 a.m. on Friday, August 23. The arrest followed a disturbance in which police say Bassett clenched his fists and screamed obscenities at the officers. He is charged with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

At 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, Ronald Austin, 54, of East Wareham, was arrested at his residence on an active warrant by Officers Harrison and Silvia.

At noon, Forrest Stevens, 24, of Onset, and Kara Jalbert, 26, of Wareham, were arrested by Officer Christopher Corner following a traffic stop on Onset Avenue. Both had active warrants and Jalbert is further charged with operating after suspension of her driver’s license.

At 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nahkalah Deyoung, 34, of Wareham, was arrested by officers Jennifer Braley and Joseph Cardoza, at Walmart for shoplifting. The arrest followed an incident where she reportedly fled the store with a stolen item, and then was located near J.C. Penney. Police say Deyoung was uncooperative with responding officers and initially refused to identify herself.

At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Christopher Harmon, 44, of West Wareham, was arrested by Officers Zina Kelsch and Blaise Lalli for two counts of shoplifting at the Paper Store. He was placed in custody after it was reported that he had stolen items at that location on two different dates.

Luz Withiam, 27, of Wareham, was arrested at 9:11 a.m. on Wednesday after a detective who knew she had an active warrant spotted her on Depot Street.

At 9:37 p.m., Kathleen Malloy, 55, of Buzzards Bay, was arrested by Officers Nate Aronson and Lorenzo Grosso, for shoplifting at Target. 

At 1 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, Andrew Holmes, 30, of West Wareham, was arrested by Officers Calib Larue and Robert McLain for an active warrant. The arrest was made on Cromesett Road following a motor vehicle stop.
