The Wareham Vikings set sail on a new season on Monday, Aug. 24 as the team held its first practice of 2026 at Clem Spillane Field.
The Vikings look to build on their success from their 2025 season where they won six games, twice their total from 2024.
Head coach Cy Bariteau, who’s entering his third season as the team’s head coach, said the team has a strong senior group this year, headlined by the duo of quarterback Amare Rose, running back Ty-Rell Pires and four returning starters on the offensive line.
“We have a team that should be able to make a bit of noise,” Bariteau said.
Bariteau said he was impressed by the work the players put into training this offseason. But the work didn’t end there: Players had to complete a conditioning test at the beginning of practice to participate in team drills. He said that the team runs a fast-paced style of offense, so the players need to be conditioned well to execute it,
The coach has a strong bond with the team. A Wareham local, Bariteau said he knew many of them before he even began coaching. He began working on the coaching staff in 2023, so he’s seen the senior class grow and develop over the past four years.
He said that right now, the team is focused on building a winning culture. “Playoffs are the results of the things we do, the culture we build,” Bariteau said.
