Triage tents go up at Tobey Hospital

Apr 8, 2020

Triage tents have been set up outside of Tobey Hospital.

The tents appear to be the implementation of a strategy Southcoast Health has been planning for weeks: a system of tents outside hospitals which staff could use to evaluate patients, including symptomatic patients, in order to reduce the volume at emergency rooms.

The number of coronavirus patients is expected to peak in the region between April 10 and 20.

It’s likely that the tent system was implemented proactively at Tobey due to the already over-crowded emergency room. The hospital is currently working on an extension of the emergency room to accommodate more patients.
