A new scholarship is being formed to honor the memory of longtime Wareham physician Dr. Thomas Gleason, who passed away on February 28 after a brief illness.

The Dr. Thomas Gleason Scholarship will be awarded annually to a Wareham High School Senior or Wareham resident accepted to an educational program in a medical or allied health field. Priority will be given to students planning to earn a degree in medicine, nursing, physical or occupational therapy, medical technology, or other health science. The first scholarship will be awarded this spring.

“Dr. Gleason served the people of Wareham for over 38 years as a caring, compassionate, and highly skilled internal medicine physician, deeply respected by co-workers, colleagues, and patients alike,” the committee wrote. “This scholarship in his memory honors his years of service by supporting his chosen field of medicine.”
