Lightning strike knocks out power on Cromesett Road

Lightning struck near a power line on Cromessett Road on Tuesday, June 23, bringing down two sections of wire, taking out power for nearby residents and starting a fire along the side of the road.
At 8:30 a.m., Eversource sent out a message to nearby residents that a lightning strike caused a power outage. Power returned to the area around Cromesett Road by 10:40 a.m.
According to a representative from Eversource, the lightning strike occurred around 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning. About 1,391 customers were initially impacted by the outage, with most getting power back soon after. About 300 Eversource customers were left without power as crews repaired the wire.
It is unclear when the fire along the road was extinguished.
