Planning Board to hold public hearing

Dec 30, 2024

Event Date:

Monday, January 6, 2025 - 6:00pm

The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. at 48 Marion Road to discuss two proposed zoning law changes: the adoption of a statewide law regarding accessory dwelling units and the location restriction of future solar installations.

The Planning Board has drafted two proposed articles for discussion at the hearing that outline how the town would implement zoning changes required by the Affordable Homes Act, a state law that allows properties zoned for single-family use to include a second, independent living space, known as an accessory dwelling unit.

The first proposal calls for a moratorium on the law which goes into effect Feb. 2. If passed, the moratorium would prevent the permitting and building of accessory dwelling units in Wareham until January 13, 2026.

The second proposal would have the town “jump in with both feet” according to Ken Buckland Director of Planning and Community Development and details the regulations Wareham would impose as part of implementing the zoning law change.

Attendees of the public hearing will also discuss a proposal to confine all future largescale solar development to a designated area, creating a new “solar zoning district.”

The meeting will be held in room 520 of the Multi-Service Center.
