Musical memories to come with Onset Bay Association
Whether it's relaxing on the beach, grabbing a slice of pizza or lounging at the park in downtown Onset, live music throughout the summer can be heard in the village..
The Onset Bay Association will host the Summer of Love concert series every Wednesday starting June 25 until August 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lilian Gregerman Bandshell at 1 Union Avenue in Onset. Each week different musicians will play their tunes for guests to enjoy for free.
Association President Kat Jones said the event draws a lot of people in.
"It's gotten bigger every year, our average crowds are like 1,000 people. It's just incredible to see," she said.
Jones said each concert will have various vendors selling with knick knacks, snacks and crafts. She said the event will be a great way for the community members to get out and meet people.
"I like to think that we're contributing to the local business economy every week because we've got hundreds of people coming in," Jones said.
The concerts have the East Coast weather in mind with a rain location at the Onset VFW at 4 Gibbs Ball Park Road in East Wareham.
Those interested in a competitive watersport can also attend the associations Kayak Poker Run. Participants will pick up five cards while paddling around Onset Bay. Once back at the Point, each person will have the opportunity to discard up to five cards and purchase new ones for $2 per card.
The event starts at Shell Point Beach Saturday, June 28 at 9 a.m. and is $25 per entrant.
"It's a little fun way to get people out on the water every year," Jones said. "There's a new people that join the event that are avid kayakers always looking for a new place to kayak. I just think Onset is flush with really cool places to kayak."
Jones said events like the poker run help people forget about their worries for the hours of fun.
"This is what community is about," she said. "Supporting local businesses, having a good time and taking care of the places where we're able to have these events — it's a great way to participate in something."
