The Jug Shop, regarded as a downtown Wareham institution by many, will begin doing business under a new name — East Wareham Liquor — when it opens at its new location in the Stop and Shop Plaza on Cranberry Highway. 

The Select Board unanimously approved the name change during its July 13 meeting.

On March 3, the Select Board approved a request from the Jug Shop’s owners to relocate their liquor license to 2991 Cranberry Highway.

At the time, store owner Dipenkumar Patel said that he wanted to move, in part, to be able to expand the size of his store and offer a greater variety of products to his customers. 

At the July 13 meeting, Patel did not say when East Wareham Liquor is expected to open for business at the new location.
