Jonathan L. Roderick, 76
WAREHAM – Jonathan L. Roderick, 76, of Buzzards Bay, passed away on January 25, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford. He was the son of the late Julio P. and Emma (Texiera) Roderick.
He was born in Wareham and lived there for most of his life before moving to Buzzards Bay. He graduated from Wareham High School, class of 1967.
He was Vietnam War Veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal with 1 Star, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
Mr. Roderick worked as a laborer in the construction field for many years before retiring. He also worked as a D.J. and known as “D.J. Johnny Smooth”.
He was a Life Member and Past Commander of the Dudley Brown V.F.W. Post 2846 in Onset. He loved sports, especially the Boston Celtics, crossword puzzles, reading, listening to 1970’s and R & B Music and trips to New Orleans. He was the first black captain of the Ice Hockey Team while at Wareham High School.
Survivors include his daughters, Darcie A. DeAngelis and Jessica L. Roderick both of Onset; his partner Linda Andrade-McClellan of Middleboro; 2 brothers, Julio P. “Rod” Roderick, Jr. of West Wareham and Michael Roderick of West Wareham; 2 grandchildren, Nola Roderick Ziewacz and Jonathan Jeffrey Ziewacz; his former wife, Nancy Roderick of Onset; several nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Tihonet Rd., Wareham.
