High School staff member tests positive for coronavirus

Oct 20, 2020

A staff member at Wareham High School has tested positive for coronavirus, Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood announced on Tuesday, October 20.

This is the first positive case within the school district this year.

Shaver-Hood said that everyone who had close contact with the person who tested positive have been notified and are self-quarantining. A close contact is defined as someone who was within six feet of the person for at least 10 to 15 minutes.

Shaver-Hood declined to say how many close contacts the staff member had, or whether any students or staff members were among those close contacts.

Anyone who tests positive for coronavirus will not be allowed to return to the schools until he or she has tested negative and been approved for a return by the Public Health Nurse.

The Board of Health has been notified.

All cleaning and sanitizing protocols are being followed, Shaver-Hood said. The classroom or office the staff person worked in would be closed for 48 hours before being deep cleaned.

“It is vital that all wear masks, frequently wash hands, and practice social distancing as your health and well-being are of the utmost importance,” Shaver-Hood said.

The school district’s website includes a covid-19 database that tracks the number of cases in the district.
