Eversource to expand energy equipment in town

May 27, 2025

Eversource will be conducting a new project in Wareham to help the town better handle a projected influx of energy from renewable sources.

Eversource held an open house for residents to learn more about the project Wednesday, May 21. The event highlighted a substation between Doty Street and the Carver Road Extension that needs expanding to handle a projected influx of energy from renewable sources.

A substation is where high voltage electricity from power sources like solar panels is turned into low voltage electricity which is carried around town on power lines.

The expansion will include replacing two current transformers which turns high voltage electricity to low voltage, add a new transformer and replace some electricity distribution and storage equipment.

Officials explained the project is still many years away, likely not being finished until the end of 2028 and will have virtually no impact on residents’ electric bills.
