Burnt utility pole sparks power outage
A hole burned into a utility pole near the intersection of Cromesett Road and Connehasset Road on Monday night, knocking out power to 150 Eversource customers in the area.
Eversource responded to Cromesett Road around 8:30 p.m. Monday and "worked as quickly and safely as possible to isolate the power outage," an Eversource spokesperson wrote in an email to Wareham Week. The fire was sparked after a piece of equipment at the top of the utility pole failed.
According to Eversource, 65 of the 150 impacted customers had power back in an hour. Crews replaced the damaged pole and got power back on by 3:30 a.m. to the remaining households.
Replacing a pole is an intensive project that often takes up to 12 hours, requires several lineworkers and a digger truck, according to Eversource.
