Body of driver identified in Mill Pond crash
The driver of a vehicle died Saturday morning after crashing into Mill Pond near marker mile 3.2 on Route 25, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's office identified the driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, as Jovanye Miller, 31, of South Yarmouth and stated that no foul play is suspected.
Tire marks on the road indicate that the vehicle, a red Range Rover, was traveling eastbound on Route 25 before swerving off the overpass and landing upside down in Mill Pond, according to the District Attorney’s office.
Officials received a call for the accident at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 and 15 minutes later the Wareham Police and Fire Departments as well as Emergency Services and the Massachusetts State Police, responded to the scene.
The initial responders were joined by the Collision Accident Reconstruction Service, Crime Scene Service and the State Police Airwing, which deployed a helicopter to search for the victim.
Around 10:30 a.m. a special taskforce of divers organized by Wareham police entered the water. State Police divers arrived at the scene soon after. At 11:15 a.m. divers exited the water.
Officials placed booms in the water to collect oil leaking from the vehicle and closed two lanes of Route 25 east shortly after exit three to accommodate emergency vehicles.
Emergency responders recovered the vehicle from the water and cleared the scene around 1:20 p.m. according to the Wareham Fire Department.
