Alvina “Allie” R. Campinha, 98
WAREHAM - Alvina “Allie” R. Campinha left this world peacefully at 98 years young at Tobey Hospital on Monday, March 24, 2025.
She was the widow of Miguel “Mike” Campinha, who she always said “treated her like a queen” and whom she cared for through kidney disease until his death in 1994, after 41 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children, Antone K. "Kenny" Campinha of Wareham and Robin M. Campinha (Christopher Reis, Sr) of Middleboro. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchild, Devon "Dani" Cleveland, who affectionately called her “Nana”, and she was foster mother to Doreen and Baby Lisa.
Allie was born and raised in the village of Onset, the daughter of Cape Verdean immigrants Edward Vieira and Mary (Barros) Vieira. She moved to Wareham in 1952 after she and Mike married and where she lived in the house they built until her death, as she had always wanted.
She was baby sister to Mary V. Rose, Manuel Vieira, Anna Vieira, Tony Vieira, Julio Vieira, and Viola (Vieira) Nunes, all pre-deceased. She is aunt, great aunt and great-great aunt to many beautiful nieces and nephews.
Alvina was a communicant of St Patrick’s Church for the last 60+ years. A former home health aide and housekeeper. She loved going to the Council on Aging’s Senior Center until the Covid pandemic, and a fall in 2021 slowed her down a bit. She was a volunteer at the former Forestview Nursing Home, where she earned the nickname “Sunshine” and a lifetime member of the Dudley L. Brown V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Onset.
She was known for her sense of style and love of clothes and jewelry. Every outfit matched from head to toe. After Mike’s death she became an avid walker and enjoyed multiple daily walks through town, including pushing her grandchild in the stroller to the library. This is probably why she looked 20 years younger than her age. She tended to her own yard work with the help of her son even into her 80’s. Allie left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
Her funeral will be from Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham on Wed., Apr. 2, 2025 at 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, 94 High St., Wareham at 11 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Tues., Apr. 1, 2025 from 4 – 7 PM at the funeral home.
