BOURNE – Alfred A. Harrington, 84, of Buzzards Bay, passed away peacefully at home on May 12 after bravely battling cancer for three years. He was the husband of Judith (Mitchell) Harrington and the son of the late Carl C. Harrington and wife Anna (Keleher) Harrington.
Al was born in Norwood and lived in Stoughton prior to moving with his family to Buzzards Bay in the early fifties. After attending Bourne High School, He enlisted in the US Maring Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. Al was very proud of his service as a Marine where he earned the rank of Corporal before being discharged after three years of enlistment. Upon returning home to Buzzards Bay, he joined the Bourne Police Department, serving first as a Juvenile Officer and then as Sergeant Detective. He retired in 1992 after being in the Bourne Police Department for 29 years.
Mr. Harrington and his wife Judy own Captain Al’s Restaurant & Tiki Bar in Buzzards Bay, as well as Harrington’s Enterprises, and Harrington’s Boatyard and Continental Marina. Besides working, Al loved being with his family and friends, sharing his “stories” often spiking them with his quick Irish wit. He especially loved driving around with his Grandson Liam, exploring many local places and towns as well as enjoying different restaurants discovered on these trips.
Al was predeceased by his parents (Carl and Anna), his brother Carl of Seattle, his sister Elizabeth Christianson of Wisconsin and his son Jeffrey of Buzzards Bay and Cancun, Mexico.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Judith, his son Frank (Krystal) of Buzzards Bay, his nephews Edward Harrington (Marcy), and Carl III of Seattle, his niece Diane Handrick (John); nephews Eric (Jen), Robert (Am) Harrington and brother-in-law Alan Christianson of Wisconsin. Al’s grandchildren include Liam, Falyon, and Jaelynn of Buzzards Bay, and Ryan of Waltham.
Visiting hours are from 4:00PM-7:00PM on Thursday, May 28th at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. A funeral home service will begin at 7:00PM.
A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date at Captain Al’s Restaurant & Tiki Bar, 3236 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Burial will be private.
