Affordable Housing Trust hopes town will consider housing at Decas School

Jan 12, 2021

The members of the Affordable Housing Trust agreed that housing should be considered as one of the options for the future of the Decas School.

Housing Trust member Sandy Slavin said she was disappointed to see that housing was not one of the uses being explored by SRPEDD.

“The study was how the town could economically benefit,” committee member Jim Munise said, rather than how the site could more “holistically benefit” the community.

“I think it would be a prime place for affordable housing, senior housing,” said committee member Missy Dziczek.

The elementary school is set to close in January 2022 when construction on the new school being built on Minot Avenue is complete. At that point, the ownership of the building will be transferred to the Board of Selectmen.

Uses being discussed by SRPEDD include office space, labs, or manufacturing.
