Aces up, oars out: Annual kayak poker run on the horizon
Suit up in life jackets and don't fold under the pressure: The annual kayak poker run returns.
Those interested in the competitive watersport can also attend the Onset Bay Association's Kayak Poker Run. Participants will pick up five cards while paddling around Onset Bay. Once returned each person will have the opportunity to discard up to five cards and purchase new ones for $2 per card.
The event starts at Shell Point Beach Saturday, June 28 at 9 a.m. and is $25 per entrant.
"It's a little fun way to get people out on the water every year," Association president Kat Jones said. "There's a new people that join the event that are avid kayakers always looking for a new place to kayak. I just think Onset is flush with really cool places to kayak."
Jones said events like the poker run help people forget about their worries for the hours of fun.
"This is what community is about," she said. "Supporting local businesses, having a good time and taking care of the places where we're able to have these events — it's a great way to participate in something."
