Jul 16, 2025

Edward Antone Lopes, born January 14, 1944, passed on to the Lord on June 11, 2025, at the family home on Point Road in Marion, Massachusetts, surrounded by loved ones. He was the son of the late Benjamin (Jimmy) Lopes and Hazel (Garcia) Lopes.

Ed was a member of the first graduating class at Old Rochester Regional High School in 1962, having excelled both scholastically and athletically. He ran track and played both baseball and basketball, while also caddying at Marion’s Kittansett Golf Club. He continued over the years to enjoy a good game of golf.

Upon graduating, Ed enlisted for three years in the U.S. Army, proud to be serving his country. He was assigned to an intelligence unit and served 12 months in Korea.

He spent his early career as an officer with the Marion Police Department, followed by several years in the retail business, before spending 12 years with Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis as the hospital’s head of security.

Ed was gifted with many skills—photography, carpentry, electrical work, gardening, which he was always willing to share with others, especially with his seven sisters and daughter Erin.

He leaves two children: a son, Edward “Ward” Lopes, Jr., of California, and daughter Erin (Lopes) Coyle of Pennsylvania; his great joy was his grandchildren, Sarah Lovett and David Lovett, also of Pennsylvania.

His parents, Jimmy and Hazel, raised their nine children in Marion. Ed was also predeceased by his sisters Lena Gomes of Wareham, MA and Rita Mott of Alamogordo, New Mexico; he is survived by his sister Rose Ann Chancellor and brother Benjamin Lopes, Jr., both of Vallejo, CA; his sisters Laura Lopes and Sylviana Espejo, both of Wareham, MA; his sister Patricia Debarros of New Bedford, MA; and sister Diane Lopes Flaherty of Marion, MA; in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Ed enriched our lives. May the angels protect him, may heaven accept him, and may we always remember his love and savor our memories of him. He left this world with courage and dignity.

Interment of his cremains will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Marion (corner of Route 6 and Converse Road) on July 27 at 1:00pm. Reception to follow at Redmen Hall, 745 Main Street, West Wareham.
