While other ice cream shops in town hunker down for the cold months ahead, a newly opened storefront is picking up the pace on Main Street.

A tiny shop with big flavor, Gone Country Creamery specializes in fresh waffle cones and homemade toppings with a hint of southern hospitality. The store has over 36 flavors of ice cream for customers to choose from all locally sourced from Acushnet Creamery.

“They say that if you do what you love then you’ll never work a day in your life,” said owner Bryanne Tucy. “And that couldn’t be any more true.”

Tucy opened the store just a few short months ago following what she said was a lifelong dream. The former owner of the Victorian Cafe in Onset, Tucy has been in the food service industry her entire life.

“I like making people happy,” she said. “And how can anyone be unhappy with ice cream?”

As for the name, Gone Country comes from Tucy’s love of all things southern.

“I’m a wicked country bumpkin,” Tucy said. “And whenever I was stressed out, I’d say ‘I just want to go country’, so here I am.”

While the store is still in need of some cosmetic touches, Tucy said Gone Country Creamery will host a grand opening this fall and operate through January. In February, Tucy said the store will be closed for renovations to include indoor seating before reopening in March.

“Why other shops close in the winter is beyond me,” she said.

With warm cinnamon roll sundaes and toppings like hot apple pie filling, Gone Country Creamery seems more than ready for chilly weather.

“I want to help make Main Street a destination,” Tucy said. “And I can’t stress how thankful I am to my staff for all they do to help reach that goal.”
