A woman was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford on Thursday, Jan. 12 after crashing into a tree near the entrance of the Wareham Lake Shores neighborhood on Glen Charlie Road.

Police Chief Walter Correia said that a medical issue may have caused the accident. 

While Wareham Fire Department Captain Michael Bird described her injuries as “severe,” Correia said that the woman “was not seriously injured.”

First responders arrived at the scene at 1:12 p.m. The woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

In a phone call to Wareham Week, Lake Shores resident and eyewitness Pamela Wilbur said that the car was “flying” down Glen Charlie Road before the crash.

Wareham EMS was not immediately available for comment.
