WAREHAM – William J. Vanderwal, Jr., 83, of Wareham passed away at Tobey Hospital on Feb. 8, 2023. He was the husband of Elaine T. (Barry)Vanderwal who passed away on Dec. 19 ,2022.

He was the son of the late William J. Vanderwal, Sr. and Margaret A. (Muncey) Vanderwal. He was born in Boston and lived in Westwood, Peabody and Chicago before moving to Wareham. He graduated from Westwood High School and East Coast Aerotec.

He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Bill worked as an Aeronautical Master Technician for United Airlines for 36 years before retiring.

He and his wife were longtime summer residents of Onset Island, he loved it there. He was Treasurer of the Onset Island Association and Treasurer of the Nor’easters.

Survivors include his sister, Margaret Rollins of Carlisle; a sister-in-law, Kathleen “Kay” Robinson of Danvers; his nieces, Doreen Clausnitzer and Jessica Torrey; his nephews, Alexander Rollins, Barry Robinson and Keith Robinson.

Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – WAREHAM, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday at Annunciation Cemetery in Danvers.
