Wareham Police arrest two after ATV, OUI incidents

On Sunday, Wareham Police charged one man with operating an ATV without a license and another with operating under the influence, second offense.

Erique Gomes, 26, of Wareham, is charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating uninsured motor vehicle, disorderly conduct , disturbing the peace and failure to stop for police.

Police said at about 2:10 a.m. Officer Robert McLain saw Gomes allegedly operating an ATV with no helmet on Fearing Hill Road. McLain tried to stop the quad; however, it sped up, turning onto Burfield Drive. The driver stopped in a backyard and started to run from the area, before being ordered to stop. Police said Gomes was arrested after McLain determined he had no driver’s license.

Later on Sunday, at about 10:15 p.m., Officers Eric Machado and Charles Pillsbury arrested Joshua Hopkins, 27, of Carver, for operating under the influence of liquor (second offense) and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. Wareham Police had received a call about a vehicle operating erratically in the area. The officers located the vehicle, observed operation and stopped him. After an on scene investigation the officers believed Hopkins was impaired and made the arrest.
