A 23-year-old Wareham man was arrested and charged with drunk driving after nearly striking a police cruiser, officials say.

Thomas Tuell was charged with failure to stop for police, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and other charges on Sept. 25.

According to officials, Officer Calib Larue spotted Tuell speeding in the wrong lane on Cranberry Highway near Onset Avenue at about 1 a.m. The car then crossed the double line toward Larue’s cruiser, forcing him to swerve out of the way.

Larue then pursued Tuell, stopping him in the Rosewood Motel parking lot. Officer Robert McLain arrived to assist and Tuell was ordered from the vehicle. After investigation, officers determined Tuell was drunk and arrested him, police said.

Tuell’s additional charges include: marked lanes violation, failure to drive in right lane and possession of an open container in a motor vehicle.
