Annual art fair

Celebrate young artists at Wareham High School's Library Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m.

Various art pieces from students will be on display as well as interactive activities for guests to enjoy. Wareham High School Culinary will be providing treats and the music department will be playing tunes throughout the event.

Be a part of the art with face painting from the National Honors Society and enjoy poems from the poetry club. 

The event is free and some art featured will be available for purchase.

Butter-Fly down the trail

Want to identify the fluttery creatures that populate the town? Join the Wareham Land trust Saturday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m at the Lyman Reserve Parking lot on Head of the Bay Road and Red Brook Road.

Butterfly enthusiasts Andy and Lauren Griffith will lead a butterfly walk at the Red Brook Trail Network to meet the local flutterbys. It is recommended to bring water and wear layers appropriate for the weather.

The event is free but space is limited. Visit warehamlandtrust.org to register. 

Competitive cookoff

The Onset Bay Association’s Mostly Annual Chili Contest returns on Saturday, May 10, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Stone Path Malt, 11 Kendrick Road.

Advance tickets are $20 and include access to tastings, live music, raffles, and the opportunity to vote for your favorite chili in the People’s Choice competition. Tickets will be $25 at the door.

Home cooks and chili enthusiasts are invited to enter the contest for a chance to win a $250 cash prize and bragging rights for Best Overall Chili. Entry is $25 per contestant. Participants must prepare at least two gallons of chili and may include any toppings of their choice. Prizes will also be awarded for Best Presentation.

Terrific time on the trails

Pull weeds, protect nature and enjoy the outdoors Tuesday, May 13 at 9 a.m. and Saturday May 31 at 9 a.m. 

The Wareham Land Trust invites guests to the Red Brook Trail Network to pull invasive Japanese Knotweed. Tools will be provided but work gloves, bug spray and water and other wood appropriate attire must be brought by guests. 

Those interested will meet at the Onset Water Department Office at 15 Sand Pond Rd in East Wareham. Visit warehamlandtrust.org to register.

Bay-tiful art pieces

Join local artists Christy Gunnels and Anthi Frangiadis for an evening of creative expression celebrating the natural beauty of Wareham.

The event will be held Thursday, May 15 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Onset Bay Center located at 186 Onset Avenue.

Attendees will create original art pieces such as collages, drawings and paper cuttings as they look out over Onset Bay.

The event is free and no registration is required.

The event is a part of ArtWeek, an annual celebration of the arts and is being held from May 8 to May 18 across the South Coast.
