WAREHAM – Theresa M. Gomes, 86, formerly of Rochester and Wareham, died Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Frank L. Gomes.

Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Margaret V. (Santos) Silvia. Raised in Rochester, she moved to W. Wareham in 1956 when she married. When she was younger, she enjoyed playing softball and basketball on teams that included several of her siblings. Mrs. Gomes also enjoyed knitting, music and spending time with her family. She also worked as an assembler at Aerovox in New Bedford.

She is survived by her children, Frank Gomes, Jr. and his wife Adelina of Dorchester, Kevin Gomes and his wife Valerie McGillivray of Haverhill, Penny Almeida and her husband Edwin of Sagamore, Michael Gomes and his wife Sandra of Wareham, Robert Gomes of Boston, and Theresa Gomes and her wife Natalia Ardagna of Revere; her siblings, Peter Silvia of Fall River, Lorraine Barboza, Joseph Silvia, Margaret Ferry, Robert Silvia, Richard Silvia all of W. Wareham, and Sandra Pina of Marion. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, the late Wayne Gomes and Dana Gomes, and her sisters, the late Eleanor Mello and Dorothy Monteiro.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Wed., July 19, 2023 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 9 to 11 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
