Take a staycation across the pond with Historical Society

Mar 13, 2023

The town of Wareham may be unlike any other place in the world, but that’s not because of a unique name.

Wareham, Massachusetts was named after the historic market town of Wareham, England, located near the southern coast of Great Britain.

As “goodwill ambassador” for Wareham, Massachusetts, former Town Moderator Claire Smith visited the other Wareham with her husband Howard in October 2021.

Smith will share photos and memories of her trip across the Atlantic at the Methodist Meeting House, 495 Main St., at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 20.

The event is being presented by the Wareham Historical Society.

Smith’s visit was an official show of friendship between the two towns.

To commemorate her visit, the mayor of Wareham, England presented her with a variety of gifts, which will be displayed during her presentation on Monday.

The event is free for Historical Society members and $2 for nonmembers. Refreshments will be served after the program. For more information, call 508-295-8578.
