Six Wareham shops fined for tobacco violations

Aug 3, 2022

Six shops across Wareham were fined for reported tobacco violations after they were found to have sold to minors without sufficiently checking their ID, the Board of Health announced Wednesday.

During their meeting earlier this evening, board members discussed the six shops and the accompanying $1,000 first-time fine for selling tobacco to minors, a penalty set by the state.

The shops penalized on Wednesday were:

  • Wareham Country Market, 195 Marion Road
  • 7-11, 3 Barker Road
  • Cumberland Farms, 2364 Cranberry Highway
  • Anchor Liquors, 2360 Cranberry Highway
  • 7-11, 3106 Cranberry Highway
  • Circle K/Mobil, 2900 Cranberry Highway

Wareham Board of Health members explained to shop representatives at the meeting that although the $1,000 fine is high, it is mandated by the state. Managers spoke to their respective updated processes for checking customers’ IDs prior to tobacco sales.
