Shipping up to Wareham: Bagpiping resident brings the Saint Patrick's Day spirit

"Sweet Caroline" and "Don't Stop Believing" might not be traditional Saint Patrick's Day songs but when played on the bagpipes, the songs fit right in with the holiday.

Wareham resident Beth Butts, otherwise known as Beth the Bagpiper performed the last show in her Saint Patrick's Day tour at Stone Path Malt Monday, March 17.

Butts performed 21 times over three days beginning on Saturday, March 15 and while most of her shows were in surrounding towns, the tour kicked off in Boston at the Harpoon Brewery.

"It's been great and I was really surprised that there were people who followed my shows," Butts said. "It's nice when you walk into a room and hear people cheer."

This is the third year Butts has done a Saint Patrick's Day weekend tour and she said it has grown every year.

"The first tour was only two stops and last year I did two days and everyone called me nuts," she said.

While it was difficult for Butts to choose a favorite moment from the weekend, she said performing at the Middleboro Council on Aging and the Heritage at Falmouth assisted living facility were two of her favorites.

"It's nice to be able to bring happiness to people who aren't in a super happy time right now, it's just nice to make people smile," she said.

Butts had the crows at Stone Path Malt smiling too as she opened her performance with Red Sox fans favorite "Sweet Caroline."

"We loved it, her first piece was just beautiful," said Hannah Savaria of Rochester. "We stayed just because we knew she was coming."

Savaria was at the concert with Todd Isaksen who was the only one other than Butts sporting a kilt.

"The concert was everything I needed, that's what I was waiting for," said Isaksen.
