Wareham students without wifi at home will soon be able to log on to online learning through internet hotspots provided by the school district.

At Thursday night’s School Committee meeting, Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood announced that distribution of the hotspots would begin on Friday or Monday. 

The devices will allow students to log online using their chromebooks, which are provided by the district for all students in second through twelfth grades. Although students without internet access have been using paper packets to learn new material, internet access will allow them to join their classmates online, access online tools, programs, and videos, and make it easier for them to stay in touch with their teachers.

Shaver-Hood said that providing students with that connection is especially important now, following the state’s decision to close all school buildings for the remainder of the year.

Shaver-Hood added that the district is in the process of repairing chromebooks that could be provided to first grade students, although that plan has not yet been finalized.
