The 26th annual Buzzards Bay Swim will be held on June 22. Registration is open now at www.savebuzzardsbay.org/swim.

Swimmers will complete a 1.2-mile point-to-point open-water across outer New Bedford Harbor. Each year over 300 swimmers and 100 kayakers participate in the event.

Swimmers ages 11 and older are invited to participate.

The participating Buzzards Bay teams include the “Cape Crusaders,” “Mattapoisett Quakers,” “Shellfish Farmers of Falmouth” and “Old Rochester Regional High School Swim Team,” as well as youth teams from YMCAs in New Bedford, Wareham, and Rhode Island.

First-time and beginner swimmers can have a personal kayak or paddleboard safety escort or choose to use swim aids such as fins or snorkels. For new swimmers, YMCA Southcoast has adult swim lessons and discounted three-month memberships with no joiner’s fee for registered swimmers.

All swimmers will receive a swim cap, event t-shirt, water bottle and a bronze finisher’s medal featuring Butler Flats Lighthouse. The finish line beach party celebration includes a hot breakfast, gourmet coffee, free massages for swimmers and a Buzzards Bay Brewing craft beer tent.
All funds raised through the swim will support the Buzzard Bay Coalition’s mission to protect clean water in communities located across the Buzzards Bay region, which includes over 8,000 acres of watershed land.
