Phantom Gourmet keeps “Kool” at local eatery
A phantom presence recently made itself known at Kool Kone. However, it wasn’t a ghost or an apparition — it was a food critic.
On Tuesday, July 2, Phantom Gourmet host Dan Andelman pulled up a chair at Kool Kone – along with an entire video crew. The Phantom Gourmet is a show that reviews restaurants around Massachusetts.
According to Tom Strom, the owner of Kool Kone, this isn’t the first time the Wareham venue has seen a phantom. Kool Kone was first reviewed by the crew in 2012.
With its reappearance on Tuesday, the Phantom Gourmet is “kind of updating what they did before,” Strom said. He added the show emailed him, said “we’ll be here on Tuesday,” and turned up.
That afternoon, the crew was set up in the Kool Kone dining room, filming a selection of food laid out on one of the restaurant’s tables. While the melting ice cream made it a stressful shoot, said Andelman, he still made time for pictures with local kids.
“It’s a legendary spot, and the people who know it love it, and the people who don’t know about it deserve to know about it,” said Andelman.
He added there are “a million crab shack joints” in the region, but this place delivers on quality and value in a way that few others do — if you go across the bridge, you’re probably paying double, he said.
“It’s just our kind of place,” he said.
Those eager to hear the full review will have some time to wait. The show will air sometime in the fall, probably in September, they said.
For now, Wareham foodies can tune in to the Phantom Gourmet every weekend at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. on TV38, Boston.
“I watch it every weekend,” said Strom.
