Opinion: ‘Unleash the PAWsibilities’ art contest was a success

To the Editor:

With the support of our collaborators & sponsors, DPAW’s Unleash the PAWsibilities Youth Creative Arts Contests 4 was a colorful success. We had 20 submissions for the first year.

This year we had 69 submissions celebrating dogs as well as creatures great & small. The Family Celebration was held on August 26 on at the Gleason Family YMCA with a gallery, awards, raffle & the Wareham Pack Walkers’ Comfort Canine Crew. Facchetti & Facchetti donated the trophies awarded to this year’s winners: Nova Lomp, Ava Ostiguy, Jayden Medeiros, Eliana Silva & Gia Goodwin.

Thanks to area businesses & organizations, EVERY contestant received a raffle prize; Water Wizz of Cape Cod, Tina Jarvis, Onset Bay Association, Hyline Cruises, Jersey Mike's, Nemasket Kayak Center, Marc Anthony's Pizzeria, The Lulu Foundation, Minkle Boys Catering, Staples, Gone Country Creamery, Onset Bay Center, Buttonwood Zoo, Ryan’s Family Amusements, Perry’s Last Stand, Gleason Family YMCA, Onset Beach Patio & Grill & The Art Farm.

Our judges were Marcia Hickey, Gretchen Pyne, Mary Nyman, Anthi Frangiadis, & Dianne Enzian. Wareham Public Schools/Beyond School Time, Gleason Family YMCA, Wareham Free Library, TD Bank & a United Way Mini Grant supported with promotion & publicity.

The Main Street Post Office will host the gallery or the month of September. For families unable to attend, pick up with be at the Wareham Free Library from August 30 thru September 13th. As the number of contestants continues to grow, as well as sponsors & collaborators, we are looking forward to surpassing 75 visual & literary submissions Unleash the PAWsibilities 5!
