Onset Fire extinguishes fire at The Liquor Locker

Apr 3, 2021

The Onset Fire Department extinguished a structure fire at The Liquor Locker on April 1.

The Liquor Locker, located at 3021 Cranberry Highway, had been closed at the time of the fire. The building sustained moderate damage, but “the business suffered a significant loss of their inventory,” according to an Onset Fire Department press release.

According to the Department’s account:

At about noon, Wareham Police notified Onset Fire that police officers who were dispatched to investigate a security alarm at The Liquor Locker found smoke inside the business. All department personnel — including Acting Chief Jeffrey Osswald and Deputy Fire Chief Howard Andersen — were dispatched to the scene.

It took 45 minutes for approximately 30 firefighters to bring the fire, which was in a room at the back of the building, under control. Even after the fire was extinguished, crews remained at the scene for about three hours “to ensure no fire hazard remained” and investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

That investigation is still ongoing. The fire did not result in any injuries.

The Wareham and Bourne Fire Departments, Wareham EMS, Wareham Police, Wareham Board of Health and Wareham Inspectional Services provided assistance at the scene.
