The Onset Bay Association held its annual Christmas In The Village, Saturday, Dec. 13. As businesses and organizations opened their doors to guests, santa hats, candy cane balloons and hot chocolate made the infamous beach town a winter destination.
President of the association, Kat Jones, said she saw many happy faces as she popped around Onset making sure everything was in order.
"I love my job," Jones said. "I get to throw parties for my community and really nothing beats that."
Jones, dressed in her finest Christmas gear, said she was felt the spirit as the day went on with various vendors and free activities to keep the guests busy. With how much work goes into organizing, she said it was well worth it in the end.
"We've been carrying on the tradition for over 30 years at this point," she said.
From ice sculptures to carolers, there was no place in Onset that was free from the festive cheer. Many businesses had free activities for children to enjoy, all walking the sidewalks with fresh holiday face paint.
One of the children, Keegan Bartlett, got a gingerbread man on his cheek. The cookie was his top choice for a very specific reason.
"I wanted to be different from my brother and sister," he said.
With a 3D printer on the top of his Christmas list this year, Keegan said he hopes he will be able to make his own fidget toys.
Standing tall at the center Dudley Square was the talking Christmas Tree. Speaking to passerbys for her fourth year, the tree said it hasn't felt like much time has passed by at all.
"I enjoy it so much," she said. "Once a year Santa gives me magical powers and he gives me the ability to talk. He makes me into a tree and sends me out to Dudley Square."
Christmas Tree, or, "Chris" for short said she looks forward to spreading cheer from her spot. With hundreds of lights making her stand out and a booming voice, her favorite Christmas song is "Frosty the Snowman" because it reminds her of having snow on her branches.
"I love all the people and talking to all of the children. I look forward to this," she said.
