New coronavirus cases slow in town

Jul 8, 2020

The number of new coronavirus cases in Wareham has slowed considerably since the pandemic’s peak this spring.

The town has had a total of 201 cases, according to Town Administrator Derek Sullivan. There have been 21 deaths, of which 14 were in nursing homes and one was in an assisted living facility.

Currently, Sullivan said, there are seven active cases, which is up from five earlier in the week.

“The low active case number does not mean we should change what we are doing,” Sullivan said. “We have seen nationally what happens when caution is thrown to the wind, so we are still very concerned given that our seasonal residents and guests come from all over the country.”
