New cannabis joint plants roots in Wareham

Good Nature Cannabis has opened a new retail dispensary at 6 Thatcher Lane in Wareham, following the acquisition of the former Trade Roots location.
The Massachusetts-licensed cannabis company soft-opened the dispensary Wednesday, May 6 and will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The store offers cannabis flower, pre-rolls, edibles, vape products and other cannabis items.
As Trade Roots said goodbye, a few former employees were retained as part of the transition.
“Wareham is exactly the kind of community Good Nature was built for,” CEO Gene McCain said in a statement. “Real people, real roots, real standards. We’re honored to be here and we intend to earn it.”
Glenn Hawkins, director of marketing for Good Nature Cannabis, said Wareham was selected because of its location and community atmosphere. Hawkins said the company wanted its first retail location to serve customers who may be newer to cannabis or interested in learning more about its wellness and lifestyle benefits.
“We want people to feel comfortable coming into a welcoming space like this,” Hawkins said. “A lot of people here aren’t necessarily deep into cannabis culture, but they know there can be health and lifestyle benefits, and they want to ask questions and learn.”
The Wareham dispensary marks the company’s first retail location in Massachusetts. Hawkins said Good Nature plans to expand into other parts of the state in the future.
The company also plans to begin producing its own cannabis products through its vertically integrated operation. Hawkins said the growing side of the business is currently being developed.
“We’ve got our own grow (marijuana plants) coming online,” Hawkins said. “People will eventually be able to come in and see the plants as they’re growing.”
Hawkins said the company’s head grower, Tyler McCain, previously helped develop proprietary cannabis strains for another Massachusetts cannabis brand and plans to bring several of those strains to Good Nature Cannabis. The dispensary currently carries several brands that Hawkins said are not widely available locally.
Good Nature Cannabis will host an official grand opening celebration Friday, June 5, at the Wareham location. The 21-and-over event will feature local food trucks, a live DJ, product vendors, giveaways, discounts and merchandise.
