Motorcyclist collides with truck on Glen Charlie Road
Witnesses on Glen Charlie Road reported a motorcycle collided with a truck resulting in part of the motorcyclist’s right leg being severed in the accident.
The accident occurred around 6:38 p.m. Wednesday, June 4 in the area of 206 Glen Charlie Road. The area was closed off to all non-emergency traffic.
Timothy Pickett lives nearby and witnessed the accident. He said the motorcyclist attempted to make a left too quickly around a bend in the road and collided with the truck coming the opposite direction.
“The motorcycle crossed lanes and clipped the truck and lost his right leg,” Pickett said. “My friend Teddy Higgins was actually behind the truck when it happened and he ran out of the car, grabbed a belt and fixed a tourniquet.”
Upon witnessing the accident, Higgins, who works in information technology, said he jumped out of his car to assist the injured man who was “in pretty bad shape.”
“He had this massive laceration on his upper thigh and he was losing blood quick,” Higgins said. “His leg was definitely broken and separated below the knee.”
Using the belt of another witness, Higgins said he applied a tourniquet to the injured man’s leg and another witness offered her blouse so Higgins could apply pressure.
“I was driving home and had my two kids in the back who are 3 and 5-years-old,” he said. “For whatever reason I got out of the car and ran over to help this guy. He kept trying to sit-up and I kept having him lay down because I didn’t want him to pass out while he was sitting up and hurt his head.”
Higgins added police arrived between five and 10 minutes after the accident and took over caring for the injured man.
The identity and condition of the motorcyclist is unknown at this time. Wareham Police could not be immediately reached for comment.
