Manuel Frank Lopes, Jr., was also known as Manny or Junie.

Born in New Bedford, the son of Betty Ann Perry of Carver and the late Manuel Frank Lopes, Sr. of Carver. Manuel Lopes Jr. graduated from Middleboro High School in 1981where he excelled on the football team. He helped the Middleboro Sachems achieve many victories, including 2 championships.

Manny served in the U.S. Air Force from 1981 to 1983 as an aircraft armament systems specialist at Dyess A.F.B. in Texas.  After his military service he went to work on the cranberry bogs with his Uncle Dom in Carver. Manny later went on to become a member of Roofers Union Local #33 for 10 years.

Manny was a man of many trades. He was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on cars. He was a professional driver; he could drive any vehicle you put him in. He enjoyed playing pool and watching sports, especially football. He was an avid New England Patriots fan, even after Tom Brady left. In his later years, he became a big-time movie lover; he always loved a good horror movie, and you could usually find him blasting some old school music in the driveway and it didn’t matter whose driveway he was in.

Manny had a smile that could light up any room he walked into. He was always making people laugh without even trying, his laughter was contagious. Manny was free spirited, and always knew how to keep the mood light, even when it came to a serious situation or conversation. Manny took great pride in his strength and mental fortitude. His proudest achievement in his eyes was being a father.
