A long story: Friends of the Wareham Free Library receives recognition
For 50 years the Friends of The Wareham Free Library have supported the town's library through everything from floods to moving buildings, all to pursue the passion of reading.
Honored at the Tuesday, Feb. 3 Select Board meeting with a proclamation, the organization has served the community of Wareham with fundraising, book sales, museum passes and much more since 1976. Dozens of members attended the meeting to celebrate all the achievements made over five decades.
The Friends of the Wareham Free Library is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization that helps the Wareham Free Library with fundraising and promoting various services.
One large thing the organization does is its partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, with 256 Wareham children active in the program today. Since the library's partnership, over 434 children have graduated from the program.
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a global book-gifting program that mails free books to children from birth until they turn five years old, regardless of family income.
The Wareham Free Library is celebrating 35 years at its 59 Marion Road location all throughout 2026. Readers and book-lovers can keep an eye out on the warehamfreelibrary.org website for celebrations and library events.
