The annual Veteran's Day parade put on by the Wareham Veterans Day Organization is returning and this year, the parade will have its first ever female parade grand marshall.

The parade, being held Monday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. will begin at Besse Park and travel down Main Street to Centre Park all while being led by Wareham local and veteran Colleen Marble. Marble will be the first female grand marshal in the parade's history.

Marble served as a personnel assistant in the Army National Guard for 35 years and retired 10 years ago as a master sergeant.

"It's an honor and I think it's important for the community to know that we have so many people in town that have served," said Wareham Veterans Day Organization Treasurer, Nora Bicki.

Also, event organizers are adding a trolley for veterans to ride in during the parade.

"Last year we had the veterans riding in one of the town's school busses but it's hard to see them in the windows, "said Bicki. "This year, Rockland Bank is sponsoring a trolley and we will be able to see the veterans and we were able to invite more veterans to ride."

Bicki explained having local veterans participate in the celebration and be visible to the community is an important part of the parade because so many families come to the event.

"Many times children are not aware what our veterans have sacrificed for us and this way, it's an educational experience for young families to introduce the concept of veterans and how important they are to their kids," said Bicki.

Following the parade, there will be a free luncheon for veterans at the First Congregational Church meeting hall.
