A public meeting on alternative plans for future of the Parker Mills Pond Dam is scheduled for 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Tremont Nail Factory, 8 Elm St.

The Parker Mills Pond Dam assessment project is an ongoing effort between the town and contracted engineering firm Fuss & O’Neill to plan the future of the dam. The firm has been tasked with assessing the dam, located under a long-closed section of Elm Street, and the options for its improvement.

The dam has been designated a High Hazard Potential Dam by the state. That means that if it fails, it “will likely cause loss of life and serious damage to home(s), industrial or commercial facilities, important public utilities, main highway(s) or railroad(s),” according to the state.

An initial meeting on the project was held earlier this summer in June. September’s meeting aims to inform residents about the alternative plans and impacts of each plan. Input from participants will also be gathered.

More information about the process can be found on the project’s website at experience.arcgis.com/experience/4eb9bef33442465b81dafeacd75d21d9/.
